Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning “universal life energy”, and represents the underlying force behind every living being. It is this essential energy that supports all life, therefore in the broadest translation of the word, Reiki means life itself.
Reiki also refers to a method of healing in which this energy is accessed at a deep level and is absorbed by every cell in the body. When this energy is flowing in a balanced way, the mind and body become relaxed, allowing the organs and body systems to begin to function freely as they are designed to do. This accelerates the body’s healing ability, and opens the mind to the underlying causes of disease and pain, thus providing support and balance in your life, not only on a physical level, but also in an emotional and spiritual way.
Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle, yet powerful method of healing. It complements any type of healing whether it is orthodox, as in Western medicine, or natural therapies such as herbal medicine, homeopathy or nutritional therapy.
It is one of the few healing methods you can successfully use on yourself, and with daily practice, it allows you to take responsibility for your own health and ultimate wellbeing.
Reiki is not a belief system or religion. It works solely on an energy level and can be practiced by anyone, regardless of previous experience or age. It is also extremely effective on animals and plants.
In the late 1800s, after undertaking an extensive study of the healing phenomena of history’s greatest spiritual leaders a Japanese scholar, Dr Mikao Usui rediscovered the ancient healing method Reiki. He dedicated the rest of his life to the practice and teaching of this method, which he named Reiki.
Reiki Jin Kei Do was named by Dr Ranga Premaratna the current head of the lineage. The Japanese kanji is Jin (Compassion) Kei (Wisdom) Do (Way or path). Reiki Jin Kei Do follows the Eastern lineage of Masters, traditionally Buddhist healing monks who were empowered with Reiki by Dr Usui.
Reiki Jin Kei Do is a spiritual lineage emphasizing the practice of Reiki with meditation to sense the flow of energy and open the heart with compassion, so that Reiki becomes a way of life, rather than just another healing method.
